Measurement of the Action Profile®#

An Action Profile® video will be taken during a normal interview/conversation. How does a detailed and objective assessment come from this video recording? The answer is by making disciplined use of tiny non-verbal data.

Pamela Ramsden’s lifetime study of movement behaviour has shown that moments of integrated movement ie. when there is a subtle blending of gesture (action of an isolated part of the body) and posture (movement of the whole body) are significant in terms of intensity, authenticity, and the degree to which the movement behaviour can be altered through conscious effort. Consequently, the Action Profile® is based upon the analysis of Integrated Movements (IMs) rather than gestural actions, which are less intense, less individually unique, and more consciously controllable than IMs. Integrated movements will show how the person is genuinely thinking and expressing their core decision thinking.

Once established the core of the Action Profile® is unlikely to vary unless there has been a traumatic experience, such as a sudden loss or a major transition for example a divorce. In such circumstances the balance of the Action Profile may change for a while but in time the original pattern will reassert itself.

A Constant and Individual Feature in the Person#

The question that is often asked is “How can the AP be constant when people are different, in different situations, and according to the pressure they are under? The answer is simply that people may appear to change but with respect to the AP® no actual change takes place - it is only that different situations draw upon different aspects of the AP®. If a motivation is not there to begin with then nothing can make it appear. (Pamela Ramsden , Top Team Planning, page 65.)
